A removal is what happens when MUSO issues a DMCA takedown notice to a website and that content is subsequently removed from the website
The presence of illegal content will be detected by our system by performing regular scans on the piracy websites registered in our databases. After identifying infringing content, DMCA takedowns notices will be sent to the website.
Depending on the compliance status of the site (whether they are compliant or not with the DMCA Law) we can submit direct takedown notices to the site (if they are compliant) and then to Google for delisting the infringing link from the Google search listings or just to Google (if the site is non-compliant or is a spoof - which is a fake domain that advertises the content but does not offer actual access to it).
In the first instance, the content is expected to be removed both from the site and from the Google search listings, whereas in the second instance, the link will be removed from the Google searches reducing its visibility and accessibility.
Once the notice has been issued, we continually check in on the removal process.
When the infringing content has been taken down, the dashboard will update the status of the infringing URL to 'Complete'.
Illegal material can be reported by clients as well if they find them on sites not (yet) registered in our databases. Other topics that might therefore be useful are -
