How to differentiate between the Files tab and the Google tab

Understanding MUSO's "Files" and "Google" Tabs

MUSO's "Files" and "Google" tabs, while similar in function, handle different types of takedown requests:

  • Files: This tab tackles downloadable content online. This includes streams, media files (MPEG), films, software, ebooks etc. These represent the actual infringing files hosted on illegal websites.

  • Google: This tab focuses on search engine listings. These aren't the files themselves, but search results displayed on Google when someone searches for your content (songs, films, books, etc.). Takedown requests submitted here go directly to Google, aiming to prevent users from encountering links to illegal versions of your content.

In essence, the "Files" tab addresses the source of infringing content, while the "Google" tab tackles its discoverability.
